Includes airflow vibration and howling, whistling, and humming sounds, both tonal and broadband.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mechanical:<\/strong> Created by powertrain operation, brake friction, and tire friction. Includes road noise and vibrations, combustion noise, gear whine, and more, both tonal and broadband.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electrical:<\/strong> Created by alternators, EV motors, and EV inverters. When a slow physical force is applied, their molecules move against each other like a fluid, creating friction that dissipates the physical energy as heat. This gives them a high <strong>loss factor<\/strong>, or ability to convert physical force to heat, that allows them to absorb vibrations instead of transmitting them to the rest of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"circle_b bg_green circle_top_right\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-luminous-vivid-amber-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column col_short is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Isolation vs. damping<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Isolation and damping are distinct concepts. <strong>Isolation<\/strong> reduces force transmission by <strong>decoupling<\/strong> the source from the structure (springs, rubber\/TPE mounts), tuned via <strong>stiffness<\/strong> and <strong>geometry<\/strong>. Some isolators are <strong>viscoelastic<\/strong>, adding helpful <strong>damping<\/strong>.
