Os pol\u00edmeros s\u00e3o grandes mol\u00e9culas formadas por subunidades repetitivas chamadas \u201cmon\u00f4meros\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esses adesivos podem formar fortes liga\u00e7\u00f5es com v\u00e1rios substratos, como metais, pl\u00e1sticos, madeira, vidro, cer\u00e2mica e materiais comp\u00f3sitos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A maioria dos adesivos polim\u00e9ricos s\u00e3o sint\u00e9ticos, ou seja, s\u00e3o materiais feitos pelo homem. Esse fen\u00f4meno \u00e9 chamado de tens\u00e3o superficial e \u00e9 causado pelas for\u00e7as coesivas das liga\u00e7\u00f5es de hidrog\u00eanio entre as mol\u00e9culas de \u00e1gua. Essas for\u00e7as tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o chamadas de for\u00e7as de &#8220;van der Waals&#8221;, em homenagem ao pesquisador que as descobriu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As liga\u00e7\u00f5es eletrost\u00e1ticas s\u00e3o relativamente fracas.
