Na maioria dos casos, a s\u00edntese \u00e9 baseada em processos biol\u00f3gicos ou bioqu\u00edmicos. Esses produtos de base biol\u00f3gica s\u00e3o neutros em carbono ou compensam as emiss\u00f5es de carbono. Em outras palavras, a combust\u00e3o n\u00e3o aumenta a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de di\u00f3xido de carbono na atmosfera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O uso intensivo de recursos f\u00f3sseis, como petr\u00f3leo, carv\u00e3o e g\u00e1s, afeta negativamente as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas. Existe uma correla\u00e7\u00e3o direta entre as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas e o efeito estufa, que \u00e9 causado pelo aumento na concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de gases de efeito estufa na atmosfera. O g\u00e1s de efeito estufa mais comum \u00e9 o di\u00f3xido de carbono (CO\u2082), que \u00e9 liberado na combust\u00e3o de recursos de origem f\u00f3ssil. O uso de mais recursos renov\u00e1veis reduziria o efeito estufa e as emiss\u00f5es de CO\u2082 na atmosfera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quando os seres humanos introduzem recursos de origem f\u00f3ssil no ciclo do carbono, eles perturbam o equil\u00edbrio natural. O aumento da libera\u00e7\u00e3o de di\u00f3xido de carbono proveniente de produtos de origem f\u00f3ssil (combust\u00edveis, produtos qu\u00edmicos, pl\u00e1sticos, etc.) aumenta a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de carbono na atmosfera, pois a maioria das emiss\u00f5es de carbono n\u00e3o pode ser compensada pela fotoss\u00edntese ou por outros processos naturais. No entanto, base biol\u00f3gica e biodegrad\u00e1vel n\u00e3o s\u00e3o necessariamente id\u00eanticas. Por outro lado, biodegrad\u00e1vel \u00e9 um atributo funcional: significa que o material pode ser decomposto por microrganismos, pois serve como nutriente para eles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O m\u00e9todo de 14C pode ser utilizado para verificar se os materiais s\u00e3o de base biol\u00f3gica e, portanto, eleg\u00edveis para certifica\u00e7\u00e3o conforme a norma ASTM D6866, desenvolvida pela American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM). A certifica\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 concedida pela DIN CERTCO (na Alemanha) ou pela Vin\u00e7otte (na B\u00e9lgica). Os produtos finais podem receber diferentes logotipos de certifica\u00e7\u00e3o, dependendo da porcentagem do carbono no pol\u00edmero de base biol\u00f3gica que prov\u00e9m de fontes &#8220;verdes&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A biodegradabilidade pode ser determinada usando testes padronizados que atendem aos requisitos das normas europeias DIN EN 13432 e DIN EN 14995 e da norma americana ASTM D6400. Mais da metade dos pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica s\u00e3o biodegrad\u00e1veis nas condi\u00e7\u00f5es adequadas, oferecendo uma solu\u00e7\u00e3o para pl\u00e1sticos que acabam no meio ambiente porque n\u00e3o podem ser coletados e reciclados. Uma concentra\u00e7\u00e3o muito baixa desse is\u00f3topo est\u00e1 presente nos tecidos de todos os organismos vivos. Embora o is\u00f3topo 14C seja inst\u00e1vel, sua concentra\u00e7\u00e3o permanece constante devido \u00e0 intera\u00e7\u00e3o cont\u00ednua entre o organismo e o ambiente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quando um organismo morre, ele deixa de absorver \u00e1tomos de 14C da atmosfera, e a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o do is\u00f3topo em seus tecidos come\u00e7a a diminuir. A meia-vida do is\u00f3topo 14C \u00e9 de 5.700 anos. Ap\u00f3s 50.000 anos, sua concentra\u00e7\u00e3o em um material \u00e9 t\u00e3o baixa que se torna indetect\u00e1vel. Portanto, os combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis (petr\u00f3leo, g\u00e1s, carv\u00e3o) j\u00e1 n\u00e3o cont\u00eam quantidades detect\u00e1veis do is\u00f3topo 14C, assim como os produtos fabricados a partir deles. Em contrapartida, produtos fabricados com mat\u00e9rias-primas renov\u00e1veis possuem uma concentra\u00e7\u00e3o mensur\u00e1vel de 14C. Dessa forma, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel distinguir entre pl\u00e1sticos de origem f\u00f3ssil e pl\u00e1sticos de base biol\u00f3gica e determinar a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de biomassa em um pl\u00e1stico como o polietileno.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"circle_s bg_purple circle_right\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-luminous-vivid-amber-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading hl_circle\">M\u00e9todos de teste padr\u00e3o<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Propriedades como biodegradabilidade e compostabilidade s\u00e3o definidas em v\u00e1rias normas internacionais. Para garantir a conformidade com essas normas, um produto deve ser totalmente biodegrad\u00e1vel por microrganismos que ocorrem naturalmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No entanto, mesmo pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica que n\u00e3o atendem aos padr\u00f5es formais podem ser escolhas atraentes de material, desde que seu desempenho atenda ao uso pretendido: eles substituem parcialmente os recursos f\u00f3sseis e aumentam a propor\u00e7\u00e3o de subst\u00e2ncias biol\u00f3gicas nos produtos finais.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"circle_b bg_green circle_left\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-luminous-vivid-amber-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading hl_circle\">Produ\u00e7\u00e3o de pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Existem duas maneiras diferentes de produzir pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica: produ\u00e7\u00e3o direta de pol\u00edmeros ou produ\u00e7\u00e3o de mon\u00f4meros de base biol\u00f3gica seguida de polimeriza\u00e7\u00e3o (bio)qu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A rota de produ\u00e7\u00e3o direta envolve a bioss\u00edntese por microrganismos, algas, plantas e um tipo de organismo conhecido como autotr\u00f3ficos. O biopol\u00edmero de origem vegetal mais comum \u00e9 a celulose, dispon\u00edvel em grandes quantidades. Outros tipos comuns incluem hemicelulose, amido, inulina e pectina. Os principais polissacar\u00eddeos s\u00e3o quitina e quitosana, que s\u00e3o produzidos por animais. Esses biopol\u00edmeros naturais s\u00e3o encontrados no exoesqueleto de insetos e crust\u00e1ceos, e tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o produzidos por alguns tipos de fungos. Microrganismos tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o fontes importantes, especialmente de polissacar\u00eddeos extracelulares (EPS). As principais fontes de pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica incluem bact\u00e9rias, fungos e algas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O segundo m\u00e9todo de obten\u00e7\u00e3o de pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica \u00e9 a polimeriza\u00e7\u00e3o de mon\u00f4meros de base biol\u00f3gica. O ponto de partida aqui \u00e9 1,3-propanodiol (PDO). Esse \u00e1lcool divalente \u00e9 um dos produtos mais antigos conhecidos da fermenta\u00e7\u00e3o anaer\u00f3bica. Ele \u00e9 produzido a partir de glicerina, um subproduto do biodiesel, com a ajuda de bact\u00e9rias. Embora se tenha assumido que o uso generalizado de biodiesel poderia resultar em superprodu\u00e7\u00e3o de glicerina, ela ainda \u00e9 mais cara do que a glicose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O sucesso do PDO \u00e9 considerado um marco importante porque levou \u00e0 pesquisa de outras formas de acoplar mon\u00f4meros de base biol\u00f3gica e mon\u00f4meros convencionais, o que poderia aumentar o uso de materiais de base biol\u00f3gica em pol\u00edmeros. O desenvolvimento do PDO levou \u00e0 s\u00edntese de novos pol\u00edmeros a partir de mon\u00f4meros de base biol\u00f3gica. Exemplos incluem a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de polilact\u00eddeo (PLA) a partir de \u00e1cido l\u00e1tico, poli(butileno succinato) (PBS) a partir de \u00e1cido succ\u00ednico, polietileno a partir de etanol de base biol\u00f3gica e copol\u00edmeros em bloco de estireno-farneseno hidrogenado (HSFC) a partir de estireno e beta-farneseno, um produto desenvolvido pela Kuraray.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-luminous-vivid-amber-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column col_short is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exemplos de pol\u00edmeros de base biol\u00f3gica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A linha SEPTON\u2122 BIO-series \u00e9 polimerizada a partir de beta-farneseno \u2013 um mon\u00f4mero de base biol\u00f3gica obtido da cana-de-a\u00e7\u00facar \u2013 e blocos de estireno (HSFC) com teor de biomassa de 50-80 por cento. Este produto vers\u00e1til tem boa performance de ader\u00eancia, for\u00e7a adesiva e propriedades de amortecimento.
